Tips and Ideas for DVD
ScrapBooks that move and
entertain.

 |
The Script is the specification of how the
DVD is put together from pictures, music, and text/graphic screens. Some of the items in the script apply only to the
"DeLuxe" version. |
|
 |
Enter your name at the top
of the "Script" where it says "Producer:". We need your phone # or
e-mail (please print clearly) to resolve any questions. |
|
 |
You give us the words, we
create the graphics for the opening and the closing screens |
|
 |
("DeLuxe" version only) If you
prefer, we can use the graphics that you supply. Put your bitmap (JPG or
BMP) on a CD or a floppy or e-mail it. |

Typical DVD ScrapBooks have
100 - 200 pictures and last 10-20 minutes. More is not necessarily better. It is
just like telling a story. Avoid repetition to keep the audience's
attention. |
|
 |
The special effects transitions add interest to the
video. Here again, more is not necessarily better. The object is to tell a
story. We use a mixture
of simple dissolves and artistic special effects (sfx) in both versions,
although the editor of a "DeLuxe" video has more choices available and can
key them more directly to the content of the video. |
|
 |
Number the pictures on the back in the order you
want them in the production. Use a soft pencil, ballpoints tend to smear. If
you want avail yourself of "Economy" pricing we insist that the
pictures are numbered strictly sequentially, without regard to sections.
In a 100 picture video the first picture is numbered #1, the last #100. No
exceptions, no changes, no additions, no #5a, $5b. In the "DeLuxe"
version we allow a lot more leeway. |
|
 |
You can include scrapbook
items (they count as pictures), invitations, news clippings etc. Bear in
mind that TV screens do not display small text well. The typical ornate
fonts used for invitations will not be readable on a TV screen, although
viewers will recognize the picture as an invitation, and that may be
enough. The same goes for news clippings. Perhaps only the headline is
readable. Also, consider the time it takes the viewer to read
text. Maybe the text should be divided
between several screens or perhaps it should be scrolled ("DeLuxe" version
only). |
|
 |
DVD ScrapBooks are often
divided in sections, sometimes with title screens ("DeLuxe" version only)
between sections. Many prefer to associate music selections with specific
sections of the video. Assume 10 pictures/minute to estimate the music. We
can change the pictures/minute and fade down music selections that are too
long. This is particularly true if you select the "DeLuxe" version. Do not
make sections too short. Fifteen pictures is about minimum for a
short section. |
|
 |
Usually the text of the opening screen is also the
label on the DVD (or VHS tape). If not, let us know. There is no charge for a
simple 'words only' label. ("DeLuxe" version only) You may select one of your
pictures to be used for the DVD label. |
